Have you asked the developer? It looks like you might be using an outdated version.

I bought this extension just a week ago. I am using Joomla 4.4.3 and the current download gave me com_docindexer_4.0.zip. I'm not integrating with a download extension. The documentation I was able to find does not match up very well with what I see after installing the extension. But by trial and error I've found that it is necessary to run the index operation in BOTH the Documents Indexer component AND the Smart Search component (in that order). Then it works.
I guess I'm going to use it, as I've not yet found any alternatives. However, I'm annoyed that adding a single PDF file to the body of indexed materials appears to require a repeat of BOTH indexing operations. Although the documentation seems to imply that a new document can be indexed, I don't see any way to do that. The Index and Re-index buttons appear to do the same things.
Try a Smart Search index operation, if you haven't already.

I did ask the 'Developer' (Mr Dam) and he wanted full access to my host (which I see in another post is his MO as he fixes the problem without detailing what he does), I denied him.
The Updater component does not work (Version 2 just hangs), the English instructions need work and it would be courteous to inform customers of version changes . . . apparently 4 now.
